August is the last month I trim any of my boxwood. Living in zone 5b, my first hard freeze of the year is mid-October. So, I want all new growth to be hardened off by the first freeze to prevent any dieback. That means all trimming should be done about two months before any freeze. If you live in a different growing zone, check your first frost date and stop trimming two months before that. | Wyse Guide
