Native youth leadership is rooted in culture. As Sage Innerarity (Ione Band of Miwok Indians), an alumnus of our Native Youth Grantmakers program, reminds us: “Our languages, our songs, our dances, and our traditional knowledges are what sustain our youth and really allow us to not only survive but to go beyond that and thrive in any space that we’re in.” True leadership means ensuring Native youth have access to the stories, knowledge, and practices that have guided our Peoples for generations.
