Conqueror was a heavy tank, fitted with thicker armour and a more powerful 120mm gun than the British Army’s standard Centurion. An unusual feature of Conqueror was the commander’s cupola. It could rotate independently of the rest of the turret and was fitted with its own rangefinder. This allowed the commander to acquire a second target whilst the gunner engaged the first. The gunner could then engage this new target much more quickly than if the commander had to use the tank’s main rangefinder

Britain’s Main Battle Tank for 20 years, Chieftain was one of the first true Main Battle Tanks, designed to replace both medium and heavy tanks in front line service. Its design incorporated a lot of revolutionary features. For example, in order to reduce height, the driver lies in a reclining position and changes gear with his foot.
