Thousands went to the first American pope’s old haunt on the South Side to hear a message from the man they once knew as Robert Francis Prevost.
Pope Leo XIV will make a virtual appearance in his hometown Saturday in his first address to U.S. audiences since he was elected pope.
“So many people who suffer from different experiences of depression or sadness — they can discover that the love of God is truly healing, that it brings hope,” the first American pope said in a video broadcast on the jumbotron at the White Sox baseball stadium in Chicago.
The pope urged Catholic faithful to be a "light of hope," to serve others, and to make the world a better place.
