An air quality advisory for Long Island is the result of smoke from Canada wildfires, New York State officials say.

Canadian wildfire smoke is triggering air quality alerts across the U.S. Midwest and Northeast on Thursday, as the northern nation’s boreal forests continue to burn at a rate not seen except for a historic season in 2023.

Parts of Canada are seeing some of their most unhealthy air yet, and the smoke is likely to move over the United States again this weekend.
