The death toll in the storms that devastated Kentucky over the weekend has risen to 14 — and the impacted communities will have to brace for more winter weather.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Severe storms last week caused 22 Kentuckians to lose their life. Gov. Andy Beshear made that announcement today while giving an update on the state’s response to severe winter weather. The latest confirmed fatality was a man in Marshall County who died due to hypothermia, per the release.

Franklin County Judge Executive Michael Mueller said he has seen several land shifts have been reported throughout Franklin County, Kentucky, following recent flooding. A prolonged rain event produced Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 6+ inches across the Blue Grass State.

Over 1,000 people have been rescued across the state, the governor said. In Louisville, crews have conducted over 30 rescues in the flash flooding, Mayor Craig Greenberg said. One storm-related death was also reported in Georgia. The storm dumped over 8 inches of rain in Kentucky and Tennessee, and 5 inches of rain in Virginia.

The death toll from Kentucky’s severe weather beginning Feb. 14 has continued to rise. On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced another storm-related death, bringing the total loss of life in Kentucky from 22 to 23.
