MUNICH (Reuters) - The European Union's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Friday that a speech by U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security conference felt as if the United States was 'trying to pick a fight' with Europe.

The vice president used the Munich security forum to take aim at mainstream political parties. Germany’s president warned against the Trump administration’s worldview.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Friday took a swipe at European governments for what he described as their censorship of free speech and their political opponents, while largely avoiding the question of how to resolve the Ukraine war.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has invited foreign ministers from the bloc attending the Munich Security Conference to meet on Sunday to discuss relations with the Trump administration and the war in Ukraine.

"Any agreement without us will fail, because you need Europe and Ukraine to also implement the agreement," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said. "Any quick fix is a dirty deal." Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said: "Nothing can be discussed on Ukraine without Ukraine or on Europe without Europe.

The announcement of the Trump-Putin call made no mention of Europe or of much of a Ukrainian role, playing into fears that their interests will fall by the wayside.
