Five people were saved after a boat sank early Friday morning, approximately 28 miles west of Egmont Key, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Venezuela’s foreign affairs minister denounced the seizure, calling it a “blatant theft” and “an act of international piracy.”

The U.S. Coast Guard launched Operation Taconite at 1 p.m. on Wednesday with one icebreaker assigned so far, according to a news release.
