A 27-year-old man was charged with murder on Monday in California in connection with the shooting death of Laney College athletic director John Beam, who starred in Netflix's "Last Chance U" series.

Cedric Irving Jr., 27, appears to have no criminal history, nor had he been a student-athlete at the Oakland junior college where John Beam was fatally shot, officials said.
