A third court blocked Trump's birthright citizenship order, bringing the legal clash another step closer to the Supreme Court.

The White House is pursuing heavy fines from Harvard and other universities as part of potential settlements to end investigations into campus antisemitism, according to an administration official familiar with the matter.

The White House is seeking fines from several universities it says failed to stop antisemitism on campus, including Harvard University, in exchange for restoring federal funding, a Trump administration official said on Friday.

According to a Thursday court declaration filed in the Northern District of California, the administration sought the go-ahead to lay people off at 17 agencies, including the departments of the Treasury, State, Interior, Agriculture, Labor, Commerce, Housing  and Urban Development, and Health and Human Services.

Justice Department officials interviewed Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, in Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday. Senators used a similar approach in the past to overcome a stalemate on judicial nominations.
