It's the latest shift in the sport that's seen a complete makeover in the last decade. From the College Football Playoff to expansion, conference realignment, the transfer portal, and name, image, and likeness, the loss of the spring game marks another seismic shift to the game of college football.

It appears that the age of “spring games” in college football is coming to an end, as the Oklahoma Sooners became the latest program to cancel their spring game.

Two of the most promising signees of the 2025 class came on the offensive line, in five-star prospect Michael Fasusi and four-star Ryan Fodje, both tackles. Freshmen haven’t often played for the Sooners up front under Bill Bedenbaugh but those two could be ready sooner rather than later.

The Sooners are the latest program of several to scrap the annual spring football game tradition, and will instead host a fan-based event on April 12.

Like many college football programs around the nation, the Sooners have decided to move away from a traditional spring scrimmage and will have alternate fan engagement activities.
