For a worker making $40,000 or less, standard deductions often already wipe out federal tax obligations. But for someone in the $50,000 to $100,000 range, shielding $12,500 in overtime or $25,000 in tips could move them into a lower tax bracket.

Low-income green card holders still within the mandatory five-year waiting period for Medicaid would be among those most affected.

“Medicaid really is a foundational pillar of hospital financing in the U.S., particularly for those hospitals that serve low-income, elderly or disabled populations across the country,” said Alan Condon, the editor-in-chief of Becker’s Healthcare, a health care business news publication.
