Haener seized the opportunity. He looked crisp on a day when he threw a camp-high 16 passes in team drills. And it was a good thing for him that he was on top of his game: Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough were also sharp. The three appeared to have their collective best day of training camp so far.

Each of the three candidates was drafted by New Orleans, one in each of the past three drafts. Only Shough was selected with the blessing of the current coaching staff.
