A "special attorney" is investigating the prominent Trump opponents on mortgage fraud allegations, while federal prosecutors are probing Letitia James' office, sources tell NBC News.

The Department of Justice has opened an investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff. The two Democratic officials have been perceived by Trump as enemies ever since Schiff led the prosecution in Trump’s first impeachment trial and James led a successful fraud case against the Trump Organization.
