The case surrounding a stabbing that became known nationwide as the "Slender Man stabbing" more than a decade ago took a new twist over the weekend.
( NewsNation) — Police in Illinois captured Morgan Geyser, convicted of stabbing her classmate 19 times in 2014, a day after she escaped from a group home in Wisconsin.
Authorities said the Wisconsin Department of Health Services may choose to file a motion to revoke Morgan Geyser's conditional release.
Morgan Geyser, who in 2014 stabbed a friend 19 times to appease the fictional character "Slender Man," allegedly told officers who asked for her identity to "just Google" her.
Madison Police Department and Illinois police officers provided new information Monday after one of the two girls convicted in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing case was found a day after she went missing.
"If they had stolen a candy bar, sure that's a child," said Payton Leutner, who is now 17. "But you tried to kill somebody. That's an adult crime."
Geyser and Weier told police they did so to curry favor with the Slender Man, which was a popular online urban legend, in a case that attracted global attention. Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide, while Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide.
Police say Morgan Geyser, one of the teens involved in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing, cut off her GPS monitor and vanished. She was found more than 150 miles away at an Illinois truck stop.
