Georgia’s state House wants to spend more on Hurricane Helene relief and is cutting some of Gov. Brian Kemp’s prison and construction spending proposals to do so.

Violence continues to be a serious issue at the Fulton County Jail, as another stabbing incident was reported last night.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - An inmate at the Fulton County Jail was stabbed, according to a Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. The stabbing happened Thursday night and the inmate was taken to the hospital.

Republicans on a Georgia Senate committee have proposed a solution to the overcrowding problem at the Fulton County Jail, but not everyone in metro Atlanta supports their idea.

On average, 1,600 corrective maintenance work requests are submitted and completed each month across all three (3) jail facilities," the county said.
