When a female dog goes into heat many first time pet parents feel very confused. Her behavior may change and there can also be spots of blood. This time is natural and happens about twice a year.

Unspayed female dogs can have their first heat cycle anywhere between 6 and 15 months of age. During heat, which happens every six months or so and lasts a few weeks, your dog can get pregnant.
