If you prefer viewing your Gmail account in basic HTML, you'll soon be out of luck. Google is removing Gmail's Basic HTML view and replacing it with the Standard view across the board in January 2024.

After the beginning of the year, Gmail will automatically change to its Standard view. Some visually impaired users prefer the Basic view.

This time the scythe is coming for one of the company’s oldest features—Gmail’s basic HTML view. In January 2024, that simple interface heads for the great beyond.

Google is sunsetting Gmail's basic HMTL view, which allows users to look at their emails in a bare-bones state, starting January 2024.

Nonetheless, Google has decided to retire Gmail's HTML view without providing specific reasons. "Basic HTML view will be supported until early January 2024.
