A federal judge has denied the government's appeal to stop the transfer of a Tufts university student back to Vermont.

A federal judge ruled Thursday that detained Turkish student Rümeysa Öztürk must be moved back to Vermont. Öztürk, a doctoral student in the U.S. on a student visa, is currently being held at a detention facility in Louisiana,

The federal government is fighting a judge’s ruling that Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk, who wrote an essay about Israel and the war in Gaza and is fighting deportation, must be transferred back to an immigration facility in Vermont from Louisiana.
