Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced Tarik Skubal as the Opening Day starter on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit during Wednesday's spring game.

Tarik Skubal threw only 19 pitches in his first spring start on Wednesday, but one of them stood out. In the first inning, Minnesota Twins catcher Jair Camargo called timeout and stepped out of the box as Skubal was in the wind-up to throw a 1-2 pitch.

Tarik Skubal has four baseball cards in his locker: two from Jake Rogers, one from an unknown fan and one from a correctional officer in Maryland.

Hinch had Dillon Dingler catching Skubal for the first time in game competition. Jake Rogers will continue to be his primary catcher, but Hinch wanted Dingler and Skubal to get some work together in spring in case there’s an injury or some strategic necessity during the season.
