A former contractor for the Alabama Department of Human Resources has been charged after a 3-year-old boy, who was in the state's custody, died in a hot car last month.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A woman charged in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy found in a hot car is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County court at 9 a.m. Monday. Kela R. Stanford, 54, of Birmingham, was arrested on a felony charge of leaving a child in a car. She was released on $30,000 bond.
