The Houston Astros have traded Forrest Whitley to the Tampa Bay Rays for $100,000, sending the struggling right-hander to a new home after he was once a highly regarded prospect.

Friday’s deal ends the Astros’ nine-year relationship with Whitley, whom they selected at pick No. 17 in the 2016 draft and gave a $3.148 million signing bonus. Whitley threw just 10 2/3 major-league innings with an 8.44 ERA in an Astros uniform.
