Nagasaki has marked the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic attack on the southern city in Japan. Survivors are determined to make their hometown the last place on Earth hit by a nuclear bomb.

NAGASAKI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Thousands bowed their heads in prayer in Nagasaki on Saturday to mark the 80th anniversary of the city's atomic bombing, as the mayor warned that current global conflicts could push the world again into nuclear war.

The Tri-Cities history is linked to the atomic bomb, after B Reactor at the Hanford nuclear reservation, shown circa 1944-45, began operating as the world’s first production-scale reactor. It produced plutonium used in the bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan.
