The Trump administration on Thursday sued New York City over local laws that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, saying the statutes unlawfully thwart immigration arrests and conflict with federal immigration law.

The action comes days after an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in the face during an ambush robbery attempt.

The Justice Department filed suit against New York City, Mayor Eric Adams and other city officials to challenge the city's sanctuary laws for undocumented immigrants.
